Release Types
There is no official definition of these categories. Some (like RLC) are obvious, but others (like Premiums) are not as clearly defined. Some collectors may not agree with these categories and that's OK.
Mainline: Cars sold at/near a mainline price. These almost always have plastic wheels. Exceptions include Super Treasure Hunt cars. |
Premium: Cars sold at a premium price. These almost always have rubber wheels and/or metal bases. Exceptions include Speed Machines. |
RLC: Cars sold exclusively through Mattel's Redline Club, which requires a paid membership to purchase. |
Mattel Creations: Cars sold on the Mattel Creations website, which does NOT require a paid membership to purchase. This includes artist collaboration cars (e.g., Daniel Arsham collection) and NFT redeemable cars. |
Other: Everything that doesn't fit one of the categories above. Examples include cars from Mattel Creations, mail-in promotions, conventions, Toy Fairs, NFT Garage, and employee-only cars. |
